Bang! I slipped off the jungle swing the two times I got to the end I got on the the trapeze
I did not want to go the first time because it was humongous the second time people kept
cheering I said shhhhhhh because I was concentrating it was fun when we were doing a
competition and I did the Crazy Ladder.I got 16 points we had to have two people on
each thing. We were Dare Devils. Beverages won.

Action World

Yesterday I went to Action World.I went on this place called the jousting bridge. I versed a person in my class called Joel then I took a really bad first shot and ran away and went down the bouncy castle and I won. I went on the high wire and I kept on falling off. The high wire was a big long rope high in the air that you have to walk across without holding anything. The whole Action World was based on bouncy castles. There was also this place called the jump n' slide. You jump of a cliff and slide down a big slide.

I liked Action World because the obstacle course was fun. My favourite part was the big swing.
You swing twice and when the lady says Now! you let go and you land on a boucey thing. It goes very high I went on it two times. It was fun and a bit scary for me. Because it was a bit high. I want to go to Action World again!:)

Action World as amazing. There was a trapeze, tight rope, jungle jim and a jump and slide. We also had a competition. My team came second. In my team was TG,NH,HC RTM andCHThere was a test to see if we could go onthe trapeze. I didn't pass, but Hanae did our teams parent helper were Ta's mum and my and my dad. It was the best school trip ever. My favourite part was the jump and slide. My hat fell of when I slid downthe steepest hill ever. After morning tea they blew up the brigde which we could fight people on. I won a lot of times. It was the best trip out of the whole year !

The thing I like about Action World is the big long slide and jump.When I went on the trapeze and the jungle bars I felt I was flying and I was so happy. The most fun was when we got to go around and explore Action World,trying our best and of course people cheering and the competition and Action World was so huge.When we came 2nd I was so proud of our group.We had such fun.The rides I like most was the big long slide and jump and watching the older people do tricks on the trapeze.I had so much fun and loved the games it was so cool.When it was the end of the day and we had to go back to school I was so unhappy because we finished our turn at Action World.

The Arts Festival

At my school - Oteha Valley, we are having an Arts Festival and I have 4 things in it because I am in the art extention with the Deputy Principal! Most people only have 2 pieces of art in the Arts Festival. One of my things that I did was a parrot. I made it by dabbing the paint brush on to a piece of paper to make a parrot shape and I did a 3D thing to it. I painted a piece of paper, let it dry and then cut it out, folded it and glued it onto the wing of the parrot.Everyone in our class created art for the festival too. These are our butterflies.

This year my school is having an arts festival. We have been doing lots of arts this month.We will be sharing our arts and showing them to our parents. Our school is proud of our arts. All of our art works are made from paper.The arts we made were these : butterflies, whirly stuff, shells, poems and other sort of paper arts.We really like all of our arts.This is our best arts.Our junior kids are having their arts festival tomorow and the senior kids are having their one on 29 of September. We will be having turns on acting and watching. In our arts festival we will be dancing, singing, silent dancing and doing arts. Our choir and dance are different kinds of songs.We will all like our arts festival.

In our class we have been doing experiments like: making jelly and chunky chalk. With the chunky chalk we got to make our own chalk and take our chunky chalk home. The jelly we got to eat; I just shoveed it in my mouth and then washed my fingers. Then I had another piece I drank it insted but there was nothing left to eat. We did a different experiment called The Bouncing Egg. It broke so we (well some of the class)had to touch the skin.

The Cross Country

On June the second it was cross country at school. At the start of school I started jogging so I could run faster. So after lunch I got changed. Then I went to the court to wait till it was the 7 years old boys turn to run. When it was our turn,we huddled together to start the race. When we started I ran ahead. Whoever I ran past they did not pass me again. When I ran around the rain garden I almost fell over! So when I reached the end I felt proud. I was in first place!

Our Wild Selves

Recently our class have been making our own wild selves and then we had to write a report about them.A wild self is a computer person except you can put animal features on it like a peacock tail or reindeer antlers etc. etc. My wild self is a Rein-rab-conda-ger-guin-fly-peacock and I named it Miss Wild.The computer makes the scientific name by taking bits of all the animals' names that you used to make your wild self. The Arts Festival!

Hello everyone!
On September 29th and 21st our school's arts festival is on. Our school's arts festival comes up every 3 years. There is a enior arts festival on September 29th (year 3-6) and a junior arts festival September 21st (year 1 and 2). The difference about these arts festivals is that the seniors do it in different groups but the juniors just do it in their classroom groups. The senior groups are: art, extentsion art, photography, kapa haka, dance for year 3 and 4, dance for year 5 and 6 and creative dance. Extentsion art is where your teacher picks out people that are REALLY good at art and you do art with the vice principal. Me, J.M, D.K and G.S got chosen. Me and D.K are the ONLY year 3's in the group. I can't wait for the arts festival!

My Wooden Cup

The thing I brought to school is a wooden cup from Finland. It is carved straight out of the wood so there are no bits stuck on it. My mum also has her name carved on it. I don’t know how she got it though. If you drink out of it, it tastes really woody.

My Special Treasure

What I brought to school was a Korean traditional dress called Hanbok. I usually wear my Hanbok on New Years’ day and other special occasions. The Hanbok is special to me because it comes in individual colours and when my mum, dad, Grandpa, Grandma were about my age they always wore it.

Egg

We put an egg into a container of vinegar and left it for a couple of days. We noticed that the egg sent gas bubbles up into the vinegar. On Wednesday we looked at the egg. It looked golden and gross! It smelt gross and we got to touch it. But... most of the class didn't get to touch it beacause it EXPLODED! Someone popped it by accident. IT WAS SAD. But the skin inside went thick and went tiny and it was see through - but it also did go gross. It smellt terrible.

Chunky chalk

Last Thursday Mrs McGhie made chunky chalk with us.
What we needed was:

1cup of Plaster of Paris 1/2
a table spoon of dye
water
a mixing bowl and a spoon to mix with.

We did chunky chalk for our topic Changes.
On Friday all our chalk set.
Then we took the chalk out and drew with it on concrete.
We all like Mrs McGhie because she does lots of cool things with us.

What we did last week?

Last week we went to look at the comments about Rohi's travels that she has had. Last week we did some fun stuff like doing art. We had to have one piece of paper each with lots of different shapes on. After that we had to draw our hand on and had to colour it in with hot colours like red, orange and yellow. We had to colour it in with hot patterns. It was the most fun art that we've done all term. We did it with Mrs Jones. We also did singing and we are a little bit good - we always practise in the hall. On Monday we did fitness and played Octopus. It was very hard to run past all those fast running taggers. It was good exersise for us. We looked at lots of photos of Rohi and comments about what Rohi had done during the weeks. We've heard lots about Rohi's travels so far. She still has lots to go on her travel. Then she comes back to us once she's had her travels to many different places in New Zealand. I wonder if Rohi had a nice time so far on her travels?

Room 16’s Hundredth Day of School.

On the Hundredth Day of school we made hundredth day hats with 100 things on them and the number 100 on the front. Mrs McGhie has made hats like this before with her last year's class and they were so popular she thought we’d like to make them too. When we visited Room 4’s blog we saw that they had made 100 Day hats too so we were quite excited about that! We counted to a hundred. We visited other classes blogs and saw what other classes had done for their hundredth day at school. We did lots of activities like a 100 dot to dot and playing 100 games on the wiki. Our class watched a video on Youtube. It had people from the age of 1 to 100 playing the drums. (Thanks to Room 4 Waiuku Primary for this video link). Some of the people in the video had to sit and some could stand. Some were tall and some were small. We read poems about 100. We also changed all the different parts of our Calendar Maths to show 100, such as our Place Value Houses, our Tally Chart and our Place Value Money.

Hearing Aids!

Some of the children in Frogs reading group have been reading all about hearing aids and how they work. They also asked some of the experts in Room 14 to help clarify any information they were unsure about. They created this summary of all of their new learning.

People that can‘t hear properly needs hearing aids. Hearing Aids help them to hear properly. Hearing Aids are things that people put behind their ears. This blog post explains how they work. Hearing aids are powered by a battery. Hearing Aids have lots of things on them like: an ear hook, an amplifier, microphone, volume control, on/off switch, battery and ear mould. That is all the things that are on a hearing aid. Hearing Aids are about $1000. You can buy them at the place where you get your ears tested – the hearing clinic. There are lots and lots all over the world. Hearing Aids are never found in two dollar shops because they are so expensive. Our ears get infections. If your ear gets an infection it is best to go to the hearing clinic. Hearing Aids can not be put in water otherwise they will stop working. They have to get a raincoat or umbrella or hat when it is raining to keep the hearing aid covered. Hearing Aids are easily broken so you have to take very good care of them.

Our Thinking - What if we could visit the Sun?

This morning for Oral Language Mrs McGhie made us put some of our thinking hats on and share our ideas about this question with our buddy. Here are some of the ideas our class came up with. Mrs McGhie thinks that we have very creative ideas.

Yellow Hat Ideas
It's big and nice and warm and you could get a sun tan.
You wouldn't need to keep booking hair dressing appointments because the sun would turn your hair blond straight away.
No aliens could visit the sun because they'd burn up.
You wouldn't have to get a haircut becausethe sun would burn it off.
You could go to the Sun and then come back and tell the scientists about what you had seen on the Sun.
Because you won't be able to go to school you'd have to teach yourself while you're on the Sun.
You could see everything in Space if your were on the Sun.
You could see if there was a comet coming down to your planet and tell everyone there was a comet coming.

Black Hat Ideas
You'd get a sun tan.
You'll have to put LOTS of sun cream on.
It would be really hot and you might get really burnt.
You'll have to get lots of sun screen before you go up there - it would cost A LOT of money.
You couldn't put your space ship on the Sun because it would blow up.
It would shine in your face and you might go blind.
It's bad to go in the Sun because you might end up in an explosion.
Your friend might be an alien and they might blow up AND even with lots of sunscreen you wouldn't be able to cover yourself up enough and you might go red.
There will be heaps of storms on the Sun.
If you stay on the Sun for a big amount of time you could die.
If you put your feet on the Sun and you were in a space suit the suit would get all burned and you wouldn't be able to breathe.
You wouldn't be able to get there because your ship would only have enough fuel to get to the Moon.
You would have to take ages to get your food and then go to the Sun because it takes ages to get to the Sun.
It would be hard to get back to Earth because it's a long way away.
You wouldn't be able to go to the bathroom because there is no bathroom on the sun.

Red Hat Ideas
Happy because it would be really fun.
Excited because it would be the first time on the Sun.
I'd be sad because I'd burn up.
I'd be curious because it would be probably the first time I've studied the Sun when I've been on the Sun.
Happy because I'd be warm.
Sad because my space ship might burn up.
Terrified because I'd be scared I'm going to die.
Nervous because I don't want to die when I walk my first footstep on the Sun.
I wouldn't feel anything because I'd already be dead.
I'd feel happy because then I could relax there.
I'd be happy because it would be my first time on the Sun.
Sad because I died at a young age.
I would feel boiling because the Sun is very hot on its outsides.

Green Hat Ideas
When you fly to the Sun you might land in an explosion so you'd need to go to a safer place like a black dot on the Sun.
I want to turn myself into a Zac Power agent so I can get a special gadget and zap the sun so it won't do nuclear blasts.
Go in a special spaceship with water guns on it and squirt water at the Sun to put it out so it's safe.
I'd go in a space ship made out of metal because sometimes metal doesn't get burnt.
Make a spaceship that wouild move as fast as light so it wouldn't get burnt up and we'd have special space suits that don't get burnt up.
Put a shield around the space ship made of see-through metal to bounce the heat back into the Sun.
I would go on a broomstick and I would have a wand and blow up the sun.
But if you put it out you won't be able to do scientific things on it.
Make a robot jet pack so if you got there and your ship explodes you could fly back to Earth on your jet pack plus you'd be able to fly above the Sun so your feet wouldn't get burnt.
You can invite aliens to a space ship and jump around.
I'd turn myself into Superman.
I'd go in a super dooper teleporter that never blew up and protected me.
If we didn't have the Sun it would be really dark all the time.

Blue Hat
Thinking about all our ideas we wondered if travelling to the Sun would really be possible and we decided that it probably wouldn't be because you'd burn up and the Sun is really too hot. It takes 11 months to get there and people just haven't gone that far in Space yet. Some of us think that it may be possible hundreds of years from now when technology is better and some of us think that it never will be. We also wondered what would happen if the Sun blew up or went out or wasn't there any more.

Our First Few Weeks of School

We've had a great time during our first weeks at school. We've read "The Hole in the King's Sock" by Dot Meharry and "Is That An Earthquake" by Jennifer Cooper.

We have learnt a new place value game called "Traffic Light". It's fun and it helps us to learn about 3 digit numbers. Today we learnt a new place value game "Close to 100" but we find that one a bit tricky at the moment.

We have been learning about the Treaty of Waitangi and Mrs McGhie read us a really cool book about the Treaty House - the house in the book could talk!!! But, we know that it doesn't in real life.

We've written a recount about what we did in the holidays. We had to use the 5 W and 1 H questions to organise our thinking.

Preparing for the New School Year

The new school year starts in New Zealand in just a few weeks time. There will be a new bunch of friends joining Mrs McGhie and we are lucky enough to be moving into a brand new classroom. Our cluster map has reset itself and Mrs McGhie has made changes to the appearance of the blog in preparation for her new class. The Cool Microphone

Mrs Mac brought a cool microphone. The new microphone is cool. We had a good time sharing our news with the microphone. The microphone can record our news while we are talking. It has a data stick so Mrs Mac can put it on her computer . We can also listen to our news when we are finshed because we recorded it. We sit on the mat in a circle and share our news. The best bit is listening to our news. We can't see anything.

Last term we were learning all about writing instructions. We got to create our own islands and design pirate maps to go with them. Then we wrote instructions to help the pirates find the treasure buried on our islands. The little booklet has pictures of some of our maps.

Polar Bear Animation

I made a slide show with 16 photos. the polar bear was very full after he ate the seal. I was very excited because I remembered how to rotate & flip the polar bear so that it would change direction. The polar bear heard something so he turned around. Mrs Mac showed some of the other teachers - they were very impressed. She also showed me how to add sound effects to my movie in Movie Maker. You can hear the sound effect when you play the video.

Learning to Animate Part 2

Today K.H. completed his own animation. He made this without any help from Mrs Mc and used Movie Maker to put it all together. Now K.H. has started to teach M.B. to make animated movies so we have her movie to look forward to. Check out K.H's animation below.

Mrs Mc taught K.H and some other children how to use Paint and Power Point to make animations. We thought it was really cool and we all want to learn how to make our own animations. Mrs Mc started off by creating 5 pictures to show us how to do it. Then K.H. got to use Mrs Mc's pictures to create 3 more pictures to add to the animation. The animation in this post was created by Mrs Mc and K.H.together.
K.H. then got to start working on his own animation and has had a very busy day creating graphics for his animation. He's going to finish it next week to share with us all. K.H. is also going to become the class expert and teach some more of us how to make animations. This means we get to be experts too and teach other children in our class.

Cross Country Practice

This year the cross country is very long. The cross country goes out of school and down the
road. Along the way we saw a beautiful house and a huge pool on the deck. The bottom of my shoe was broken. I showed my teacher my broken shoe. After the practice it was lunch time.

Our class is learning about the Australian Aboriginals. We have learnt a lot about them. We are also learning about people who live by Uluru. The people who live by Uluru eat a type of food called bush tucker. They suck the nectar from honey grevillea flowers. They eat honey ants. The children like to play in the sand. They like to explore the rocks.

The Magical Kingfisher

The king fisher came and picked up the people. He had this land with heaps of water. He took the people to his land.
