Inquiry project

Today after morning tea Mrs Prangley came to our class to insepect our inquiry projects most of us made a slide show and some of us made a wind mill that picks up paper clips. I only made a slide show and it looked "awesome!" I was one of 15 kids that made one. I love doing things like that - making slide shows with animations and the credits it was so funny! I have made a production company that is called Electro Productions

Cross Country + Inter-School

“3, 2, 1, GO!" I jogged down the hill passing the other girls, and then I turned the corner. After turning the corner I had to run up the hill, boy that was tiring, but I wasn't puffed out yet! Now we went down a hill, through some trees and back in the bright yellow sun.

It was time to run up the big, tall hill. I jogged up the hill with sweat running down my face and a small painful stitch in my tummy. So far I was 4th.  Finally we got to go down the hill, Yay! Now we went back the way we came. Oh no! Another hill!

Before I knew it a girl passed me, oh how it would be a dream to come top 5. (I have never come top 5.)

I was back in the school grounds. Almost there! I was on the field still in 5th place. Then I decided that I could run fast enough to pass the two girls in front of me, and I did it! I was 3rd now. I hope I will stay in this position until the end! Oh, another hill, I jogged up quite slowly. Then I was close to the finish line. I jogged in the middle of the court, everyone was cheering, and...and... I made it! I was 3rd. my dream had come true! It was quite different this year because all the fast girls apart from one, didn’t come top 5! That was a change. Then it was all over. The intermediate I am going to next year you can choose to do cross country. Should I or should I not do it? Anyway I was so glad it was over. I had a great time then ever! (Because it was the first time I came third) I can’t wait until inter- school!

                                                                Inter-School

Even though it is the last day of term 2 and Inter-School was ages ago I'm still going to write about this fun and tiring event.

I sat in the car thinking of what inter-school was going to be like. When we got there I was so excited! ( The event was held at Long Bay Primary School) After we had a trial of the course the races began. When the 10/11 year old girls were up, my heart started to beat as fast as a cheetah running, I was so nervous.

"3, 2, 1, GO!" I sprinted as fast as I could. Through the muddy hill we went. Then around the cones, through the trees and up the hill. I sprinted down the hill as fast as I could, I was totally puffed out. Then it was time for the GINOURMOUS hill. I jogged up the hill with a big stitch in my tummy. Almost there! Down the hill we go, around the corner, and around the corner again, and I was back where I started. I ran around the field and... I made it! I was so proud of myself though I came 8th to last. I had a great day, and I got an ice block after school!

The Cross country

On Friday 25 May our school did the cross country. We had to dress up in our house colours my house colour is red. After morning tea we it was time to do the cross country. First 7 year olds, then 8 year olds, 9 year olds and finally my age group 10/11 year olds. We all lined up, people keep going over the start line because they were so eager. Then all of a sundder 3,2,1 GO!!. First down the steep hill. Then up a steep hill. I was just cruising along then suddenly 5 people passed me. I speed up as fast as I could I got passed them. I was really trying to beat my friend this year because when we do the practise I only beat him by like 10 metres. 500 metres to go i am beating him by 4 metres then suddenly he got a minor asthma attack I stopped went back walk a bit with him that didn't matter because I was beating the rest of the people by about 100 metres. I think I was coming about 8th at the time then he said "you can go on" So I did I got back I was not sure what I came but my friend Dylan came 1st ever since year 1 he has come 1st. I saw my friend come in he was alright he went home early. It was so fun. By Thomas

Tread Lightly Caravan

This Term we have been learning about Renewable Energy. That means stuff like Solar Power.Yesterday some people came to teach us about Renewable Energy. My favourite activity was when we got to go on a bicycle and try and power up appliances the lights were easy but the jug was so hard. Now I know how much energy it takes to power up a jug.
We also looked at stuff about the planet and pollution.
They told me that it takes 1 million years to break down a computer.
We played a game like snakes and ladders but with geckos. We had to answer questions about the planet I won in my group because of luck.We used a microscoe to look at nature it was so fun

The Oteha Valley school house challenges

Yesterday was the Oteha Valley School House Challenges. It was in the period between
morning tea and lunch. There are four houses:Batten the blue house, Rutherford the red house, Hillary the green house and Sheppard the yellow house, each based on a famous New Zealander. Every child in every class was in a different house.I was in Batten,Jean Batten's house. The Year 1's and 2's went first-they did a running race where you had to touch a green basin, then run back to the line. I'm not sure who won though, either Sheppard or Rutherford or Hillary. After, the Year 3's and 4's went. They
had to do a dress up race. They ran to a pile of clothes, got dressed up in them, ran back to the line, then ran back and took the clothes off before the next people in the other teams did. Then the year 5's and 6's went(Me!Ellie wasn't present(Sick)on the Monday)We did a sack race, then a tiring race where therewere 5 hoops, with 5 people in them, and we had to dance with them with a mini beanbag on our heads.Sheppard came first in the challenges,Batten second,Hillary third and Rutherford last or Rutherford third and Hillary last.It was exciting and FUN,FUN,FUN.

The Amazing Twilight Gala!

Finally the 16 of March, I have been waiting for the first ever Twilight Gala held at Oteha Valley School. I was at home getting ready for the senior kapahaka to perform on the court in front of everyone. one of my friends and I had to do a speech, but we jut didn't want to do it on the microphone. But we did it, it wasn't that bad. We went onto the court and we had some cones around us so that no one would get in our way and muck us up. So me and my friend had to try and squeeze through everyone so that we could get to our places. We wore pretty long maori designed dresses just for the senior kapahaka girls could wear. The boys wore a piupiu and a headband but made bigger and it was down the sides of their bodies. The girls wore a clip on earing, a moko and some more makeup. it took us about 1 hour to do the seniors and the juniors kapahaka

The Twilight Gala

On the 16 of March Oteha Valley School held their first Gala of Oteha Valley School History.
While I was home getting ready to go, the first thing I was thinking of was going on the SKOF slide. (I knew there was a slide because I saw it after school before I went home)

Finally at 4:25, I took my first step into the school. Everything was WAY better than I thought.
I stared at the slide. It was taller than I thought it was. When the clocks all struck 4:30 it all began. I ran to the slide with my friends. I reached deep in my pocket. I took out $3 from my pocket. The man gave me a token to show that he knows I can have another turn on the huge slide and a blanket so I don’t get burned on my skin. . (It is a blow up slide) I climbed up and took a deep breath. When I got to the top I got in my blanket like a sleeping bag. I looked down, it looked so steep. I slid down screaming, it was like a straight line, how fun it was! After my second turn I reached down in my pocket again for $2. This time I went with another friend. We held hands and stepped into the haunted house. It was so dark and scary. Vampires and monsters would pop out of walls and scare you. When we found the exit Mrs Mcghie asked us if we wanted to go out or go another way for people that are brave.(Mrs Mcghie was on the Haunted House Roster from 4:30 to 5:00) We went the brave way. When we got out it was already 5:00. We raced to the Kapa Haka room to get in our costume. (We missed some cool things while we changed)

Finally at 6:00 we hit the court to perform. I was in the front line, fourth to last on the right. The show was awesome. The last thing my friend and I did was buy a hamburger for dinner, buy candy floss, and get a signature from CJ and Dillon. (NZ Breakers Basketball team)It was cool we got their signatures.

It was nearly 7:30 and we had no coins or notes left plus most of the rides closed. I said bye to all my friends and went in my car with my family. I can't wait until the next Gala.

I hope you enjoyed my description about the School Gala

School Gala

At 4:30 the school gala started. This is our first gala ever. Most of the stalls were already set up. People not even from our school came! There was a HUGE red SKOF slide,Mini Jeeps,Water Walkers and the Haunted House. The Haunted House was set up by our school teacher Mrs. Holmes. It was seriously scary. Cookie Bear,Mr. Whippy, Mitre 10 and Cadbury supported our gala. Cookie Bear organised a teacup a ride, a mini Pirate Ship and Laughing Clowns. Our school also supported the gala. Children bought cakes, cupcakes, books, food, plates, burgers, hot chips and donuts. Since the gala was during dinner time, there were also drinks, croissants,Thai curry, sushi and meat. I met my friends there near the bike rack. My little brother played with all my friends. Kids under five don't have much to do there. That is why Mitre 10 Mega set up a bouncy castle for 5 year olds and under. Someone set up a Lolly Store. They sold sour powder power, slushies, sour rainbow strings, soda guns, wine gums, milk bottles, lollipops and chocolate fudge. There was a Kapa Haka performance by our school. Then there were cheerleaders from junior to senior performing. A family sold raffle tickets. At the end people gave away free Tutti Frutti popcorn and normal popcorn. Mr. Whippy sold FREE ice-cream! Here are two stalls I haven't talked about yet, the book stall and the Break a Plate stall.
